Meet Sandra McDonald Midwife
Sandra is Certified Professional Midwife and Licensed Midwife in Texas (4th generation native Texan!), and has been in primary practice since 1986. She has attended well over 1500 births in home and birth center settings, including numerous water births, VBACs, breech and twin births. Birth is transcendent; every mother and every baby is a unique individual and deserves to be cared for as one.

Prenatal Visits

Birthing Guidance

Postpartum Support

Prenatal visits take place in your home and at a time amenable to you. Prenatal visits include a physical exam including vital signs, an evaluation of your nutrition, activities, overall wellbeing and any concerns you might have, and a chance to discuss your birth plans in detail. A visit generally lasts 30-60 minutes, or however long it takes to ensure all your questions are answered. They can be as family-centered as you like: children, other family members, friends and pets are all welcome and invited to ask questions.
Labor can manifest in many different ways, and I would like for you to be in touch at your earliest signs and throughout the pre-active phase. The use of a doula is encouraged (especially for first time moms and those seeking home birth after a previous cesarean) and I am comfortable working with whoever you choose. I will arrive during active labor, and will remain until you and your little one are clean, fed, safe and comfortably settled in after birth.
Bedside postpartum visits will be done at 24-48 hours, one week, and 4-6 weeks to ensure you and your baby's continued comfort and wellbeing. They provide an opportunity to discuss and process the experience of your birth, detect problems if any, address any ongoing concerns, provide breastfeeding support and recommend referrals as needed.

"As a 4x Homebirth mom and a Doula who has been to alot of births I can say without question, Sandra is the most supportive care provider I have ever had the privilege of being around. My birth was amazing because she is amazing and she believed in me and she made sure I knew that. I will forever sing her praises"
Meleah Ekstrand

"Sandra is the most compassionate and competent midwife I know. She has more than thirty years of experience, she has taught the complications classes for the Association of Texas Midwives, midwifery school for ages because she is well versed on dealing with the unexpected. She is evidence based and stays on top of current research. She does in home prenatals (which is supremely helpful for subsequent babies so that the entire family can be included. Those appointments feel like spending an hour with a loving friend, while also making sure that mother and baby are physically doing well.
Her presence and energy at a birth are serene, reassuring, confident and calming. But above all she is a kind, caring and compassionate midwife who offers relationship based care which is also highly effective clinically because she knows you and helps you do the best that you can for yourself, your baby and family. I am eternally grateful for the wisdom she shared with me and my family over the duration of our time with her."

"The wisdom and compassion a woman can intuitively experience in childbirth can make her a source of healing and understanding for other women."
